Screening Day Procedure List

Screening Day Announcement

Please make an announcement as a reminder that the IDFY Screening date is today.  Students should bring only a blue or black ink pen with them (nothing else).

Students may also need to be reminded that they should try and wait to go to the restroom until they are called.   Re-testing of current IDFY students will be done first.  Pictures will be taken of each student.


Materials Needed for an IDFY Drug Screen at Your School

  • 4 tables set up for the screening
  • 8 chairs
  • Girls and Boys bathrooms, cleaned with lots of extra toilet paper
    and paper towels
  • Electrical outlet
  • Grounded extension cord
  • 2 large trash cans
  • PA System
  • Baby wipes or antibacterial lotion for students
  • Counselor or school official to sit at a table and sign forms
  • A school official for crowd control
  • 4 parent volunteers (at least one male)
  • Parental Consent forms in alphabetical order, separated by males
    and females

Registration Table - Station #1

Materials needed at this table:

  • 2 tables
  • 3 chairs
  • Counselor and/or school official

Parental consent forms should be collected prior to the drug screen.  Carolyn Angelo will contact you to get an accurate count of the number of students to be tested 4 days prior to the screening date.  The accurate count must be known by 10:00AM 4 days prior to the test date.

Parental consent forms should be made available in the Counselor's office, the Main office or can be printed directly from the IDFY web here.  The students should be able to drop them off to the same location.  You might want to schedule some announcements to remind students to return their forms.  Also, posters around the school help to promote the IDFY program.

Students at Station #1 will be required to have the following forms:

  • Signed parental consent form
  • Medication list (any medication taken in the last 30 days)
  • Donor form for Path Lab use

Pathology Lab Table - Station #2

Materials needed at this table

  • 2 Tables
  • 3 Chairs
  • Trash can
  • Good view of both Boys' and Girls' bathrooms
  • Female parent volunteer
  • Male parent volunteer

The Male and Female Parent Volunteer will have "bathroom duty".  They will stay in the bathroom with the student.   They will take paperwork from the student and supply the student with a cup for the urine. Additional Volunteer Guidelines can be viewed here.

Materials needed at this table

  • 2 Tables
  • 3 Chairs
  • Vicinity of an electrical outlet
  • Grounded extension cord

Students will take their IDFY Photo ID card at this station.


Screening Day Procedure

  • IDFY Personnel will arrive at school and set-up at 9:00AM
  • Counselor and Parent Volunteers are briefed on duties.

  • All students will be called to the gym with a blue or
    black pen only
    • Please make other arrangements for the gym
      classes that day i.e. a film or outside activity
  • All forms will be filled out
  • Everything will be explained to the students
  • 3 - 4 students will go to each station at one time
  • To screen 100 students it usually takes the IDFY
    Personnel about 2 - 2½ hours
